Cocoa Delight

recipe image

If you have a fetish for dark chocolate, this will fuel your flame. It will also energize your body with antioxidants that boost blood flow to the brain (and a few other vital organs). Cocoa, kale, and cherries, three beloved and sexy superfoods, contain flavonoids and antioxidants that fight heart disease and diabetes and even promote brain growth.

Serves 1

1 cup roughly chopped kale

1 cup frozen pitted black cherries

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, plus 1 teaspoon for sprinkling

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  1. Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and sprinkle with the cocoa powder. Serve immediately.

Did You Know?

Chocolate feels naughty but can be nice for your health, as long as you choose a variety that contains 70% cocoa or more. Studies show that the flavonoid antioxidants in chocolate can improve mood, increase blood flow to the brain, and even help lower risk of stroke. Dark chocolate is also an excellent source of minerals such as iron, magnesium, copper, and zinc.

How would you rate Cocoa Delight?

  • You guys left out a vital ingredient (as others have noted)! But I loved the idea anyway so did a bit of modification. Used a little less kale, added a pinch of salt and a little vanilla, and also about a cup of coconut milk (to the line on my Bullet). OMG this is delicious. I’m in trouble now….

  • Is there a typo? Is there supposed to be some liquid of some kind? After a minute of trying to blend as is, I was concerned the motor on my blender would burn out, so I added a cup of rice milk so it could at least blend! Also… didn’t taste as awesome as I’d hoped. Need something else to mask the kale a little.
